About two-thirds of the commuters relied exclusively on a car to get to work. “Public transport often involves walking - to or from bus or train stops - so can be a very effective way to build regular activity into your daily life.About 45 percent of the commuters and 53 percent of the other participants also reported some walking when they weren’t going to work, and 9 percent of commuters and 7 percent of other adults reported some cycling.

“Assuming the environment supports more active travel routines, such as accessible, safe bike and walking paths, incorporating physical activity into travel, even for only part of the journey, may be a convenient strategy to improve health,” Mohanty, author of an accompanying editorial, said by email.Researchers also lacked data on any changes in commuting habits over time.Commuters also spent a little more time each week participating in sports, but the people who didn’t travel to work spent more of their leisure time walking, the authors note in the journal Heart. In addition, 22 percent of commuters and 37 percent of other people in the study used public transit when they weren’t going to work.Still, the findings offer fresh evidence of the benefits of finding ways to fit even a little bit of exercise into daily routines, said April Mohanty of the Veterans Affairs (VA) Salt Lake City Health Care System and the University of Utah School of Medicine.

Oliver Mytton of the University of Cambridge.”                    end-of                Tags: walking, cycling, heart, stroke, cardiovascular disease, university of cambridge, university of utah school of medicine, veterans affairs (va) salt lake city health care system, active.Among the people who were not regular commuters, more active forms of travel were associated with an 8 percent lower risk of death from all causes during the study. The study wasn’t a controlled experiment designed to prove whether or how commuting by foot, bike, bus or train might directly lower the risk of heart disease. When people do find time to exercise, even if it’s just to bike or walk or stroll to a bus or train station to get to work, it can help them maintain a healthy weight and keep blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels in a healthy range.

Mytton said.People who were regular commuters at the start of current study were a bit younger than those who didn’t travel to work: 52 years old compared with 61 years old.“All of these factors reduce risk of heart disease or stroke,” Mytton added.Researchers in the UK examined data on 187,281 regular commuters and 171,498 adults who didn’t routinely travel to work. Sedentary time has also been independently linked to an increased risk of premature death.Overall, 82 percent of commuters and 77 percent of the other participants used the car at least some of the time for travel unrelated to work.“The study suggests that replacing car journeys with more active patterns of travel may help people reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke,” said lead author Dr.While physical activity has long been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, many adults spend much of their day in sedentary jobs and compound this lack of movement with inactive commutes.“For most people this means walking or public transport, instead of using the car,” Mytton said by email.

Commuters who abandon their cars in favour of walking or biking to work are less likely to develop heart disease or to die from it than people who drive to the office, a recent study suggests.”Doctors typically advise people to get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous exercise. After an average follow-up period of seven years, commuters who walked, rode a bike or took public transit at least part of the way bike parts and accessories manufacturers to work were 11 percent less likely to develop cardiovascular disease and 30 percent less likely to die from it than people who exclusively commuted by car.“The new finding of the current study is that individuals who do not regularly commute also benefited from including physical activity into their travel routines,” Mohanty added. “This is an important finding as many individuals work from home or do not regularly commute for other reasons.

Considering the propensity of the target audience to add more touring friendly features on their bikes, we expect KTM to provide a range of official accessories, either at the time of launch or at a later stage. It will also draw its lineage from KTM’s rally racing history.

This segment works exceptionally well in India as the bikes in this category are relatively lighter, less complex and easy to handle than full-fledged adventure motorcycles that come packed with all kinds of technology.Until the arrival of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the adventure segment in India was pretty much occupied by machines meant solely for well-heeled enthusiasts. With the 390 Adventure we would be making our long awaited entry into the niche premium dual-sport segment which is a very apt segment for Indian roads.KTM’s word on the upcoming model:KTM says the new model will be placed under the Adventure range of motorcycles and will be sold alongside its existing products.

Unlike KTM, BMW Motorrad says it isn’t focussing on outright sales numbers. The powerplant of the 390 Duke was more than enough for Indian roads, and the chassis setup was brilliant for spirited riding. However, the ingenious lot that we Indians are, most found one way or the other to take their road-going bikes on off-road adventures. The auto major has also confirmed that the bike will be inspired by the 1290 Super Adventure. The Indian two-wheeler segment just got a whole lot more interesting!Source: ZigWheels. Last week, BMW Motorrad announced that it has started accepting bookings for both bikes.com                    end-of                Tags: royal enfield, bmw motorrad, ktm, hero impulse. So, it was only logical for the Mattighofen-based motorcycle manufacturer to develop an adventure variant for riders with a certain sense of wanderlust. According to the manufacturer, the upcoming model will ‘provide the motorcycle-touring community a state-of-the-art package to ride long distances and conquer any terrain’. We expect the Adventure to sport a larger 17-18-litre fuel tank for enhanced range too. Amit Nandi - president of Probiking, Bajaj Auto Ltd. Thanks to its partnership with Bajaj, the Austrian bike maker was even able to manufacture it in a cost-efficient manner and price it at the affordable end of the 300cc segment. With such value for money, the bike will surely garner the attention of a lot of riding enthusiasts. Kawasaki wanted to grab a portion of the pie with the Versys-X 300, but didn’t exactly succeed due to its stratospheric (but justified) pricing. Instead, it wants to provide customers with a premium riding experience. While the bike is likely to share the engine with the Duke, we expect it to be tuned for more bottom-end torque. What we think:Going by the Duke’s feature-laden proposition, we expect the 390 Adventure to be loaded with ride-enhancing goodies.4 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The 390 Adventure was spotted testing in Europe back in 2016. This time, its featured a more toned down design and in line with the brand’s 790 Adventure concept (remember 2017 EICMA?). Also, since it already has ride-by-wire, it does open up the possibility of having multiple ride modes like ‘Road’ and ‘Rain’. Expect the multifunction colour display to have navigation capability in the Adventure. The WP suspension setup will have more travel than the Duke’s. Click here for a more detailed take on the possibility of two variants. Click here to see how the 390 Adventure slots in among its rivals., said, “KTM is a niche brand for a select few. The Dakar-inspired motorcycle looked crude, hinting at the need for a lot more work to be done. The ergonomics should be upright, with the footpegs positioned for easy stand-up riding. This could hint at bulletproof build quality and impressive touring capability.Adventure segment in India:Later, the Himalayan came into the picture and manufacturers realised the huge potential in the adventure segment, particularly in the mid-capacity space.Early sightings:KTM has been silently working on the 390 Adventure ever since the 390 Duke gained popularity.Though BMW Motorrad also yearned to be in this segment, the German marque wanted to make sure it does things right, including setting up the infrastructure required to handle its upcoming entry-level twins - the G 310 R and G 310 GS. However, the real shot of adrenaline came when KTM confirmed the launch of the China bicycle spare parts manufacturers much-awaited 390 Adventure, which is slated for next year. The Hero Impulse did enter the frame to provide some excitement to the off-road enthusiasts with a limited budget but couldn’t make a mark owing to its underpowered engine. The motorcycle was spotted again in October last year.” Going by his statement, it’s likely that the bike will be offered with the option of both spoke wheels (likely a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear, shod with knobbies) for the off-road variant and alloy wheels (possibly 17-inch units on both ends with road-biased tyres) for the touring version. If KTM wants to launch the bike in 2019, it is safe to say that it will unveil the 390 Adventure concept at this year’s EICMA. This could include parts like panniers, saddle stays, headlight guard, auxiliary lamps, crash guards, sturdier bash plate, centre stand and radiator guard.

So, now we know what we can expect from the upcoming variant of the Ducati Scrambler. So, it is definitely going to be a great show for the Ducati fans and enthusiasts across the world at the upcoming motorcycle show in Milan.

The video contains just a few riding China Bike Handlebars Factory shots of the new Scrambler, in which the bike is not visible clearly, along with some party shots.

According to some reports, the Italian bike maker has also registered two new Scrambler versions for 2017 with the California Air Resources Board. Just one detail revealed from the video clip is that the bike is sporting a metal mesh cover on the headlamp. There is very little to tell about the upcoming motorcycle since Ducati has ensured that no one can get much from the teaser video. The Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati is cooking something special for the upcoming EICMA motorcycle show. These machines were lighter and used a more durable sub-frame along with long travel suspensions and other performance parts.Source: BikeDekho. The video ends with the Scrambler ridden on a desert terrain, saying “Desert Sled coming soon”, but again, the bike is not visible properly. These type of motorcycles were used to race in the Baja desert competitions in California.

If we go back to the 1960s, Desert Sled referred to a special breed of scrambler motorcycles which were built to be used on desert terrains. These new models are said to be offered as 'DS' and 'CS', among which the DS is most likely to stand for ‘Desert Sled.Apart from these new Scrambler versions, there are many bets on Ducati for unveiling various products which were spied during this year.’ Speculations suggest that the CS could be a café racer iteration of the Scrambler, which is also expected to be unveiled at the 2016 EICMA.

It recently released a teaser video titled "Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is coming!" and is expected to showcase a new variant of the Scrambler at the EICMA next month in Milan, Italy.
